Hi All. Here’s a few links from around the web which I liked or got me thinking. I hope you’ll enjoy them if you haven’t already seen them:
First up is this lovely little story about a German publisher who created this clever combination of amazing advertising with a splash of generosity where you can give your unwanted Christmas presents to charity and receive a book in return. Yes that’s right – a book vending machine that gives to charity! Check it out here if you haven’t already seen it.
For the bloggers and authors among you the article on the Bookseller webpage about 7 tips for blogging meaningfully and nailing SEO – particularly as an author – may be of interest to you.
Next up is this article about ‘Why the British tell better children’s stories’. Obviously that’s going to pose a pile of opinions depending on which side of the Atlantic you may be on and what your favourite children’s stories were. It was an interesting read about the different categories that the books from each country can be categorised in. Have a read and let me know what you think!
Having just talked about children’s fiction how could I not follow it up with a picture of J K Rowling! There is relevance though. It links to a article about how writing as a profession is seeing a drop in the income that authors can expect. It made for sobering reading – particularly as I am trying to become a professional author – but at the same time it gave me a ray of sunshine. The ALCS study that it refers to shows that approximately one in ten authors are able to make writing their only source of income. I’ve done plenty of things in life which had worse odds! Bring it on world 🙂
Finally, here’s a list of entertaining 404 error pages. Who wants a bland error page when you can have a starship trooper helping you on your way?
